Scorecard: | East Lancashire v Ramsbottom |
DateLine: 12th May 2008
After the disappointment of the previous day Ramsbottom needed a victory to restore some pride back into the early season, and restore they did thanks to a superb batting display from pro Lou Vincent and Phil Hayes.

Simon Read back from work commitments, and playing his 250th first team match for Rammy, lost the toss as East Lancs chose to bat on a warm sunny start.
Jack Walmsley was given the opportunity to open the innings, bowled with pride and was awarded with the wicket of opener Claque. The opening tidy spell was supported by the two Read's Simon and Chris. Chris Read taking two wickets.
A heavy thunderstorm in the 40th over took the teams off the park, and any prospect of a restart looked slim. However work mainly by the Rammy boys to get play underway was rewarded when when the umpires declared that 18 overs could be bowled. Ramsbottom were given the option of going for an outright victory or accepting a no result, they chose to bat.
At a rate of nearly seven an over, Vincent and Hayes set about their task with venom, to such an extent that they achieved their target with some 5.3 overs to spare. Vincent scored his first half century for his adopted club with three sixes and seven fours. Phil Hayes continued his early season form that has earned him a place in the Lancashire League team to play the Central Lancashire League on Bank Holiday Monday, with a 50 ball innings of 48 (4 fours, 1 six).(Article: The opinions expressed in this article are those of the author only.
