Dwayne Bravo Profile

Player:DJ Bravo

DateLine: 20th February 2007

The brightest find in West Indian cricket in recent years, Dwayne Bravo’s all round skills are certainly one reason why there has been an upward surge in the country’s fortunes of late. As a medium pace swing bowler he has given considerable support to the pace spearheads either by bowling steadily or taking the odd wicket or two. Both in Tests and ODIs he has proved his worth as driven home by his strike rate, economy rate and average. As an aggressive middle order batsman his free flowing strokes are a joy to watch. With scorching drives and cuts and ferocious hooks and pulls he plays fearlessly in typical Caribbean fashion. He made his Test debut against England at Lord’s in 2004 and by the end of the four match series announced his arrival on the international stage in a dramatic manner – 220 runs and 16 wickets for a side that lost all the Tests. Over the next year or so Bravo added substantially to his impressive credentials by getting Test centuries against South Africa and Australia. In the ODI series against India in 2006 he dazzled with bat and ball, chipping in with match winning knocks and bamboozling batsmen with his newfound weapon – a well-disguised slower delivery. His maiden century in ODIs where he has a strike rate of almost 75 came about in the Champions Trophy in India in 2006.
