Died 31.1.1897 Folkestone, Kent.

 

The third son of Sir George Hamilton Seymour, GCB, GCH, of the Foreign Office, 10 Grosvenor Crescent, London SW, by his wife the Hon. Gertrude, the daughter of Henry Otway, 20th Baron Dacre. He entered Rugby School in April 1857, but was not a member of the cricket eleven.

 

He became an Ensign in the 16th Foot in June 1861, transferring to the Rifle Brigade 8th October 1861. He was promoted to Lieutenant 3rd January 1866, exchanged to 35th Foot 7th November 1868, retiring (as Captain?) 10th November 1869.

 

His only match for Lancashire was against Sussex at Brighton on 16th and 17th August 1869 when he did rather well. The following year he appeared for Hampshire against Lancashire at Old Trafford, on 21st to 23rd July.

 

In 1870 he married Jessie M., daughter of Hon. William McDougall CB, of Toronto, Canada.

 

The 1881 Census shows him living at Hollybrook House, Millbrook, Hampshire, aged 38 a magistrate, born at Brussels, Belgium, with his wife Jessie M. aged 33 born in Canada. They have a daughter, Maud aged 8, and four sons, Ralph aged 6, Claude aged 5, Hugh aged 4, and Vere aged 1. There are seven domestic servants.
