Notes
--> Bowling in the Rockcliff innings adds 21 runs under

This was a contentious match; Durham's AAW Mewburn joined Rockliff in 1890 and there was some animosity that a player representing another county should play in the Northumberland League. In the event, this was his only league match and his presence may have heightened the atmosphere.
At the 2.30 pm scheduled start time, Northumberland Club had neither captain nor umpire; they found a gentleman from Whitehaven in the crowd who agreed to stand and the match started at 3 pm according to the Northumberland Club or 3.10 pm according to Rockliff. This time was important as it determined whether the close of play would be 7.30 pm or 7.40 pm.
The Northumberland Club were left about 90 minutes for their innings and they were soon playing for a draw and there were accusations of of time-wasting against the Northumberland Club captain. Their ninth wicket fell at 7.30 pm and the Northumberland Club did not send their last man in as they held that time was up. Rockliff disagreed and stayed on the field until umpire Graham called 'play' with no new batsman at the crease.
The Northumberland Club claimed a draw but the County Committee awarded a win to Rockliff by 134 runs.
