The game between the two teams at Northampton the previous week had been won by Northamptonshire. Batsmen had the upper hand with each wicket averaging 49 runs per dismissal. For the visitors, there were 12 fours, 6 threes and 7 twos in Pool's 116, and 21 fours and 5 twos in Thompson's 112. They put on 170 runs for the second wicket in the Northamptonshire first innings, which was the highest partnership for that wicket during the season. W H Kingston's 52 contained 4 fours. For the home team, there were 9 fours in Henderson's 73 not out, 6
