Setting Glamorgan 270 runs to win in 150 minutes, Surrey 2nd XI won this return match at 5.40 pm on the second day, thus reversing the result when the two teams had met at The Oval earlier in the month. For the winners, Walker top-scored with 133 not out. He had scored 61 in the first innings with 5 fours. Walker's batting match aggregate of 194 runs was a new record for the competition, overtaking F G H Clayton's 180 for Northumberland against Durham at Philadelphia in 1897. It was to be exceeded later in the season when J F Marsh scored his 200 not out for Oxfordshire against Buckinghamshire at Aylesbury. Thompson's 53 contained 6 fours. With Walker, he had put on 104 runs for the fifth wicket. For the losers, Bancroft's 102 included 18 fours. A collection for Bancroft at the ground on the first day realised "over £3". Jones was absent on the second day owing to the death of his mother and J P A Geoghegan fielded as substitute. The match aggregate of 836 runs was the third highest of the season.
