Event: | Sri Lanka in Zimbabwe 2008/09 |
DateLine: 22nd November 2008
After the Murali, Mendis magic in the first ODI which wrecked havoc on Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka would want their batsman to put runs on the board. The Sri Lankan batters would want to get a hit in the middle. The batters were extremely scratchy. They took more overs than Zimbabwe in scoring the winning runs and their in lies the problem.
Except Sangakkara nobody managed anything significant. On the other hand Zimbabwe losing 7 wickets for 3 runs in the batting powerplay didn't help matters. It seemed foolhardy that they took it when Mendis and Murali were bowling.
Tatenda Taibu looked from the other end as wickets started tumbling in the other end. They would want to get more runs in the second ODI to put pressure on the Sri Lankan batsman. Sri Lankan batting order still looks fragile and that is something Zimbabwe would want to exploit in the second ODI in Harare. But their biggest problem will be 20 overs of Mendis and Murali.
