Player:PP Ojha

DateLine: 7th June 2008

He is India’s new spin hope, as the slow bowlers’ department looked empty after Kumble, Harbhajan and Piyush Chawla. The fact that he is a left hander means that it will only add to the variations in the bowling attack, and obviously will be a threat to Murali Kartik.

Although he had a mediocre first season in the domestic circuit, he improved markedly in his second season, ending up among the top 10 bowlers by the end of the league stage of the 2006-07 Ranji Trophy, with 29 wickets at 19.89 in six games for Hyderabad. These consistent performances meant that he was on the flight to the twin tours of Zimbabwe and Kenya, & then played against South Africa at home, and he took eight wickets in an innings victory in Delhi. Based on impressive performances for the Hyderabad based Deccan Chargers in the IPL, though his team failed miserably, he succeeded in getting a call up to the ODI side for the tri-series in Bangladesh and the Asia Cup in Pakistan, in June 2008.
