Grant Elliott Profile
by CricketArchive

Player:GD Elliott

DateLine: 3rd June 2008

Grant Elliot is a player cast in the mould of an all-rounder. He can bat usefully in the middle order and can swing the ball at a decent pace. His statistics in domestic cricket prove as much. In 42 First Class games, he has scored 5 centuries with a highest score of an unbeaten 196, and taken 62 wickets at 35.80 apiece.

No wonder then, that the New Zealand selectors have nurtured him as a replacement for their more celebrated all-rounder Jacob Oram. For only when Oram got injured, Elliot got a chance to don the national colours, making his debut against England in March 2008. He could not make much of a mark in that one-off game as he took a solitary wicket and failed twice with the bat.

An interesting fact about this 29-year-old is that he originally hails from South Africa, but left that country in 2001 in search of better fortunes. Since then he has been playing for Wellington, and scored 361 runs at an average of 45 in the 2006-07 season. The call-up to the squad for the tour to England has been his reward for all his hard work over the years.
