At 19 Mehrab symbolizes the future of Bangladesh cricket. Few teenagers have had such a high reputation or have been so highly talked about. The chairman of the selection committee Faruque Ahmed has been quoted as saying the performance of this young batsman over the last two years in different levels gave us the impression that he can represent the senior side for long.Hossain has captained the Bangladesh Cricket Board Academy team on the tour of Pakistan and visited Zimbabwe as a member of the Bangladesh A squad earlier this year. His consistent showing earned him a berth as the only new face in the squad for the Champions Trophy. The dashing left-hander scored centuries in both innings in the second Test at Mutare averaging 59.40 for the three match series. In the five one-day games he got one half century. He has the game for both ODIs and Tests and is a cricketer from whom much is expected in the future.
