DateLine: 20th February 2007
One of several medium pacers that the country has thrown up in the new millennium Ruchira Perera has attracted attention because of many things. He is left handed among the plethora of right arm pacers. Then during Sri Lankas tour of England in 2002 his action was labeled suspect. But he worked hard on modifying his action the problem was with his elbow and he returned to international cricket. But he seemed to be affected by what he went through for he was barely effective. He played his last Test in 2002 and has been in and out of the one-day squad. But he is still young and strongly built and remains a lively medium pace bowler who brings the ball back sharply off the seam. A never say die attitude has also helped.
