Pakistan axe Afridi for first West Indies one-dayer by AFP

Pakistan left out explosive all-rounder Shahid Afridi from the 14-man squad for the first one-day international against the West Indies, Pakistan Cricket Board announced Friday.

 

The first in the five-match series will be played in Rawalpindi on December 5, followed by the second at Faisalabad (Dec 7), third in Lahore (Dec 10), fourth at Multan (Dec 13) and the final game in Karachi (Dec 16).

 

Younis Khan will lead the team in Rawalpindi as regular captain Inzamam-ul-Haq will be completing a four-match ban for bringing the game into disrepute during the Oval Test fiasco in August this year.

 

Inzamam led Pakistan's protest in the fourth Test against England after umpires Darrell Hair of Australia and Billy Doctrove of the West Indies awarded five penalty runs against Pakistan on charges of ball tampering.

 

Afridi, previously an integral part of Pakistan's one-day teams, has managed just 114 runs at 8.14 runs in the 17 matches he played this year but has also taken 14 wickets.

 

Paceman Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, who has 82 wickets in 52 one-day matches, earned a recall after being overlooked in the Test series. Leg-spinner Danish Kaneria was also included in the one-day squad.

 

The West Indies have already announced their one-day squad with Corey Collymore, Fidel Edwards, Daren Ganga and Omari Banks returning home after the Test series.

 

Marlon Samuels, Dwayne Smith and Ian Bradshaw have already joined the touring party.
