The opening match of the tri-series between hosts Sri Lanka and South Africa was called off on Monday due to heavy rain. The match will be played on Tuesday.

Officials were scheduled to do a ground inspection at 4:00 pm local time, but another downpour in the afternoon meant that the umpires had no option but to call of the match.

Meanwhile, a bomb blast occurred in Colombo, three kilometres from Taj Samudra, where the Indian team is staying. All team members are safe.

The blast has killed seven people and left 17 others injured. Among those killed are four military personnel. The blast took place at the Liberty roundabout, near Liberty Plaza on Anadanda Kumarswamy road.

The security arrangements for the teams have been further strengthened after the bomb blast.

The Indians were about to leave for the afternoon session but had to put off the programme because of the rain. So at the time of the blast, the entire team was in the hotel.
