The organizers of the 2007 World Cup said fans from as many as 121 countries have applied for the 800,000 tickets of the showpiece event to be held in the West Indies. The 16-nation World Cup will be played from March 11 to April 28.

As the first phase of public ticketing closes on Monday, applications have increased and there are good chances that important matches like the final and semi-finals would be oversubscribed for the March-April tournament.
World Cup commercial manager Stephen Price said: However that should not deter fans from applying because as we have been stressing all along anyone doing so before July 31 has an equal opportunity of being allocated tickets in the lottery for oversubscribed matches. By late August, people who have applied for some of the more than 800,000 match tickets available will be advised of what match tickets they have been allocated, Price said.
This arrangement will enable them to book their airline tickets and hotel accommodation.
"We've had applications from 121 countries worldwide which is indicative of the widespread interest in this major sporting event. In addition, we're seeing another surge in public ticketing activity, reminiscent of what occurred when it was launched on May 1," Price added.
