Former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes said Saturday he would strive to give Pakistani players a bit of fielding attitude ahead of next month's tour of England.

 

"A large part of what I want to leave with the Pakistan team is the attitude of fielding which can make a difference to the team especially at the international level," Rhodes told AFP.

 

The 37-year-old, regarded as one of the best fielders in his playing days, has been hired by Pakistan to boost the team's fielding skills ahead of the England tour.

 

Pakistan will play four Tests and five one-day internationals on their two-and-a-half-month tour, with the first Test starting at Lord's from July 13.

 

Rhodes, who played 52 Tests and 245 one-day internationals before retiring in 2003, said he would advise the Pakistani players to have fun out in the field.

 

"It is quite difficult to change overnight. I am not expecting to see immediate results tomorrow or the day I leave. I think if I am able to help them improve their attitude towards fielding, it would be great," he said.

 

"The Pakistani team has improved fitness and consistency under Bob Woolmer. My advice to them will be to enjoy fielding. I would like to tell them about the techniques -- what is the good position to dive and catch the ball."

 

Pakistan's 16-man squad will soon start a two-week training session to include fielding lessons from Rhodes.
