Veteran leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed, a member of the current Pakistan squad, said Tuesday he would like to coach his team if offered the job.

 

"I have recently been approached by England for a two-week coaching stint at their academy and if I am offered a similar role in Pakistan I would love to do that," said Mushtaq.

 

The local media reported last week that Mushtaq was due to take over as deputy to Pakistan's English coach Bob Woolmer.

 

"I have not been offered the post as yet, but if it comes through I will accept it," said Mushtaq.

 

The 35-year-old Mushtaq, recalled to the squad after two years, failed to find a place in the playing eleven for the first two Tests of the ongoing three-match series against England.

 

He was a successful bowler in English county cricket, taking 80 wickets for Sussex last season.

 

Mushtaq said he had no plans of quitting cricket despite being interested in coaching.

 

"It will be nice to coach while you yourself are an active player. I think it is an added advantage," he said.
