David Womble enjoyed arguably the least fruitful Derbyshire career of any player in the modern age. Given a 1 match contract to play for the injury hit county against Sussex in the Sunday League in August 1996, his 3 overs went for 29 and he was never seen in Derbyshire colours again. However Womble has been a mainstay of Staffordshires Natwest Trophy and C & G Trophy campaigns ever since, and in the early rounds of these competitions he can be an effective performer with both bat and ball, even if he can struggle against the First-class counties.
