Big Mac joins Lowerhouse

Worsley Cup holders Lowerhouse have signed Victorian all rounder Andrew McDonald after failing to bring Ryan Harris back as professional for the coming season.

McDonald signed for Haslingden in 2003 but didn't play enough First-class matches to meet the Work Permit criteria so Haslingden had to look elsewhere. In January 2004, Ramsbottom announced that McDonald had agreed terms with them, but this fell through when Haslingden made him a better offer. Unfortunately he only lasted two matches and had to return home after suffering a back injury.

Lowerhouse Chairman David Wren said "We are very pleased to sign Andrew. We tried to sign him last year but lost out to Haslingden. He and Ryan Harris were our targets for 2005. I was a little surprised that such a talented player was still available having waited for a couple of months before Ryan's availability was determined.

"We are looking to build on the progress we have made over the last couple of years and to become a consistently successful side. We expect Andrew to make a significant contribution in enhancing the clubs' development".

The Australian all rounder will make his competitive debut for his new club in the Ron Singleton Colne Trophy match against his former club Haslingden on Saturday April 16th at Bentgate.

McDonald's capture leaves just Bacup and East Lancs as the only clubs yet to announce signings with the season just five weeks away on Sunday.
