Media Release - 05 January 2005

The facts relating to Umpire Asad Rauf being released for international duty earlier than scheduled are as follows:
International Cricket Council (ICC) specifically requested Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that Asad Rauf be released one day earlier than his scheduled departure to Bangladesh on January 2, 2005. He had to fly to Dhaka on 1st January as there were no seats available between 2-6 January, 2005.
The decision to release umpire Rauf early was taken by PCB bearing in mind that Rauf would be officiating internationally and that it would also be his maiden international Test match as umpire.
As a consequence, umpire Rauf had to forfeit his on-field umpiring duties for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy between Peshawar Region and Faisalabad Region on the last day (January 1, 2005). As is the law when an on-field umpire is unavailable for duty, the third umpire Zameer Haider was assigned Rauf's duties and PCB appointed Siddique Khan as third umpire in Haider's place.
