It is with deep sorrow that Bacup Cricket Club announce the passing of another of its former prominent players.

 

Sadly all rounder Peter Usher died suddenly last Thursday at the age of only 62.

 

Son of John and brother of David, also ex Bacup greats, Peter played 198 Lancashire League games for his first club where he came through the ranks as a junior.

 

After making his debut in 1979 he was virtually an ever present throughout the 80's contributing heavily with both bat and ball.

 

Peter scored 2192 runs at 14.42 and took 169 wickets at 24.26 with his wily medium pace seam bowling.

 

He was an entertaining cricketer who liked to hit sixes, and often did.

 

He competed hard on the field, but loved nothing better than to enjoy a pint and a laugh with his team mates and opposition in the bar afterwards, putting his wicked dry sense of humour to good use.

 

In 1991 he went to play for Woodbank where his younger brother David was now professional and later he played for a few years in the Ribblesdale League for Padiham.

 

He continued to visit Lanehead for the occasional family reunion where his mum Annie, brother Phil and sister Janet are still members and it was always a pleasure to see him again.

 

Sadly that will no longer happen.
