Rishton have signed former professional Shaun Von Berg for 2022.

 

A club statement said:

 

'Owing to our signed professional Asela Gunaratne being confined to hospital due to illness, the decision has been taken in conjunction with his agent to terminate Asela's contract with Rishton Cricket Club to be our professional for the upcoming 2022 JW Lees Lancashire League Season.

 

'The Club wish to thank Steve Hirst of Cric X for his help and guidance in coming to this agreement in such an amicable way.

 

'The Professional sub committee have acted very promptly and have managed to pull off a coup.

 

'The club are delighted to announce that the Rishton CC professional for 2022 will be the ever popular Shaun Von Berg.

 

'Shaun was professional at Blackburn Road for two previous seasons which yielded 1353 runs at 54.12 whilst his bowling stats were equally impressive with 104 wickets at a shade under 10.

 

'Shaun was also signed by the club for the 2020 and 2021 but was unable to fulfil this due to COVID 19.

 

'The club are excited by the return of VB and hope that his "Lancashire League Homecoming" will be the catalyst for an upturn in fortunes after what could only be described as an under whelming 2021 season.'
