Narsingh Deonarine shares similarities with Chanderpaul in the sense that he comes from the island of Guyanese. He was first drafted in as a replacement into the team when there was the conflict of interest between the players and the board. In the limited opportunities that he received he has not set the international stage on fire with his performances but the mountain of runs he scored at the domestic level was too much for the selectors to ignore and he has been given a chance against the visiting Indians. If he performs to his potential he can be a permanent fixture in the West Indian team.
