After making ODI debut for Australia he remained a forgotten man for long. He made a surprise Test appearance for the tour of India in 2004. Hauritz made his debut in the fourth Test and picked up Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman. His one-day form at domestic was excellent and this persuaded the national selectors to include him in the 30-man squad for the postponed version of the 2008 Champions Trophy. A second Test appearance, against New Zealand, came over four years on from his maiden one.
