| Player: | SK Raina |
DateLine: 5th May 2009
With Raina coming in at number three, the openers rest assured that even if they get out trying to up the ante, he would be able to take it up from where they leave. Another success story, this blue-eyed boy who was highly regarded by former India coach, Greg Chappell, Raina has done enough to prove his worth in the side. This aggressive southpaw is an exceptional fielder in the point region and can also roll up his arms and bowl a little bit of off spin in friendly conditions. After being in the side for a year, Raina was dropped in 2006 after a string of poor performances where he failed to score a half century in 15 knocks. He finally made his comeback when India named a 16-man squad for the VB series in Australia. But his fortunes turned once he batted exceptionally well in IPL first season. His swashbuckling batting for the Chennai Super Kings made it easy for him to stake a claim in the Indian ODI side, and then good performances in the Asia Cup and since then has made sure the talented youngster is a crucial member in the playing 11.
