Lancashire 1868
Born 1838 Ashton-under-Lyne.
Died 21.1.1898 Grafton, Herefordshire.
 
The youngest son of John Grimshaw, J.P., D.L., of Gorton, Manchester. 
He played his early club cricket for Ashton-under-Lyne and in 1863 played for Twenty-two of Ashton against the All England Eleven scoring 28 and 3, he also took a catch. The 28 was only surpassed by E.B.Rowley's 32 on the Ashton side. The following year he again played for the Ashton Twenty-two against the All England Eleven, this time only making 3 and 0, E.Whittaker being the top scorer with 24. 
On July 18th and 19th he had appeared for the Gentlemen of Lancashire against the Players of Lancashire at Old Trafford scoring 12 and 9 and taking a catch. At the end of June 1865 he played for the Gentlemen of Lancashire against the Gentlemen of Shropshire making 13 and 3. 
In 1868 he played for the county at Lord's against the M.C.C. and Ground and later that week travelled with the Gentlemen of Lancashire to Gravesend where he scored 8 and 9 against the Gentlemen of Kent. 
The 1881 Census finds him living at High Bank House, Gorton, Manchester, with his widowed mother, Mary A., an annuitant, aged 84. He is unmarried aged 42, a cotton spinner. His elder brother John is also present, aged 42, a solicitor, he is also unmarried. There is one domestic servant. 
When he died his residence was High Bank, Grafton, Herefordshire, and probate was granted to his widow Kate. He left £171.5s.9d.
