Hassy land Big Mac at last
by Nigel Stockley - February 26th

Player:AB McDonald

Haslingden have signed Victorian all rounder Andrew MacDonald.

Haslingden chairman Mark Rothwell said: "We are delighted to have secured Andrew's services for the season. After last seasons disappointment we have been monitoring his progress and watched him blossom into a very fine and highly thought of young all rounder. If he can stay injury free and not be recalled by his state I think the club can look forward to a very good season."

McDonald signed for Haslingden last season but didn't play enough First-class matches to meet the Work Permit criteria so Haslingden had to look elsewhere. In January, Ramsbottom announced that MacDonald had agreed terms with them, but this fell through when Haslingden made him a better offer.

The 22 year-old Victorian all rounder, who bowls right arm medium pace and bats right handed, has a career best 6-67 against Western Australia and he also notched a career best unbeaten 45 against Queensland. This season he has taken 26 wickets at 26.5 and scored 125 runs at 12.5. He played in eight Pura Cup matches for table topping Victoria before making way for the return of Shane Warne against South Australia.

McDonald did actually appear in the Lancashire League last season whilst over on tour. He played for Enfield as substitute professional against Rishton, taking 3-80 in 25 overs, but was not called upon to bat in Enfield's 9 wicket win.
