PHILLIPS, Henry.
Professional.
Born at Hastings, Sussex, 14th October 1844.
Died at Clive Vale, Hastings, Sussex, 3rd July 1919.
He and his three brothers, Albert, Peter and James, were all keen cricketers in the Hastings area and James played in 64 matches for Sussex. Henry was an excellent wicket-keeper who played in 216 first-class matches, 195 of them for Sussex. He was offered a place on the ground staff at Lord's, but declined. He was a cabinet maker by trade.
In the 1881 Census he appears living at Garden Cottage, Edmund Road, Hastings, Sussex, a builder aged 36, with his wife Helen aged 38. They have one domestic servant.
