Albert Freethy was a stalwart of Neath C.C., and the right-handed batsman played in eleven Minor County games for Glamorgan between 1908 and 1920, as well as in three first-class matches in 1921.
 
After retiring from cricket, he became on of the top rugby referees in Britain. He achieved a certain amount of notoriety by sending off the New Zealander Brownlie during their international with England, and in 1928 he refereed the 1928 Olympic Rugby final. 
Despite his involvement with rugby, he remained interested in cricket and served on Glamorgan`s committee during the 1930`s.
