Player: | CL Smith |
'Kippy' Smith was coached in South Africa by Alan Jones, who invited him to play in the South Wales Leagues, and hopefully join Glamorgan. The right handed batsman followed Jones` advice and played in club cricket in South Wales in 1979, but he was considered an overseas player and only played in Glamorgan`s friendly against Sri Lanka at Swansea.

In 1980 he joined Hampshire and ironically was then classed as English, making his Test debut in 1983. The steady opening batsman duly played in 8 Tests for England and enjoyed a highly successful career with Hampshire, until retiring the end of the 1991 to become the Marketing Manager of the Western Australian Cricket Association.
