Colin Metson was Glamorgan`s regular wicket-keeper from 1987 until 1996, during which he displayed flair and panache behind the stumps.

The former Durham University student had begun his county career as Paul Downton's understudy at Middlesex from 1981. Metson was keen to play regular Championship cricket, so he left to join Glamorgan in 1987 and it wasn't long before his agile and quietly efficient wicket-keeping was winning high praise. Indeed, in Glamorgan's Nat West quarter-final tie in 1995, ironically against Middlesex, Metson won the man-of the-match award after a top-class display of wicket-keeping. During his association with the Welsh county, Metson set a number of new wicket-keeping records, including a club record 7 catches in an innings against Derbyshire at Chesterfield in 1991, and twice taking a record match haul of 9 victims. In addition, he did not concede a single bye on six occasions between 1990 and 1996 when opposing passed the 400 mark.
He was also a competent lower order batsman, and often acted as the Welsh county's nightwatchman. Metson had also performed this role with Middlesex, for whom he hit a career best 96 against Gloucestershire at Uxbridge in 1984. Metson was awarded a Benefit Year by Glamorgan in 1997, before leaving the playing staff at the end of the season. He has subsequently played Minor Counties cricket for Wales and has been their captain since the 2000 season.
