MORTON, Philip Howard.
Amateur.
Born at Tatterford Rectory, near Fakenham, Norfolk, 20th June 1857.
Died at Boscombe, Hampshire, 13th May 1925.
He was educated at Rossall School, where he was a member of the cricket eleven 1875-76, being captain 1876. He went up to Trinity College, Cambridge, and was a member of the University cricket eleven 1878-80. He played in a total of 31 first-class matches, including two for Surrey in 1884. He also played for Norfolk 1881-83. He became an assistant master at Elstree School, Hertfordshire, 1880-89 and headmaster of Bracewell Hall School, Skipton, 1889-96, of Scaitcliffe School, Englefield Green 1896-1903 and finally of Wixenford School, Wokingham, Berkshire. Whilst he was at Skipton he started the Northern Nomads wandering club of which he was secretary for eight years.
At the time of the 1881 Census he was lodging at Barnet Lane, Edgware, Middlesex, aged 23, a mathematical tutor at Elstree School. three other tutors are present as is a matron/servant.
