LANCASHIRE, Oswald Philip.
Amateur.
Born at Newton Heath, Manchester, Lancashire, 10th December 1857.
Died at Fielden Park, West Didsbury, Manchester, Lancashire, 23rd July 1934.
The son of James Lancashire, of Newton Heath, Manchester, he was educated at Lancing, where he was a member of the cricket eleven 1873-77, being captain 1875-77. He was also a member of the football eleven 1875-77. He went up to Jesus College, Cambridge, playing cricket for the University 1878-81 and winning his blue 1880. He also won his blue for association football 1878-80, being captain in 1880.
He played in 122 first-class cricket matches, 97 for his native county, Lanashire.
A J.P. for Lancashire, he resided at Butts House, Leigh, Lancashire, but later in life he moved to Homeleigh, West Didsbury, Manchester. He was President of Lancashire CCC 1923-24.
There is no trace of him in the 1881 Census but 1881 was his last year at Cambridge and he was said to like foreign travel.
