David Harrison is the son of former Glamorgan seamer Stuart Harrison, and in the past few years he has taken over the mantle of Steve Watkin as Glamorgan`s opening bowler in Championship matches.

At the age of 18, Harrison made his Glamorgan 2nd XI debut in 1998, and in 1999 he then played for England Under-19. After impressing captain Matthew Maynard in the pre-season training in 1999, Harrison duly made his first-class debut early in the 1999 season. However, he was later struck down with injury, but his appearances for England Under-19 in the 1999/2000 Youth World Cup confirmed his rich potential.
After further success in 2nd XI cricket in 2001 and 2002, Harrison deservedly won promotion to the county`s 1st XI during August 2002, and he impressed many people with a fine return of 5/26 against Yorkshire in the Norwich Union League game at Headingley. He subsequently remained in the side for the rest of the League season, and in 2003 won a regualr place in the county`s County Championship side.
Harrison enjoyed a highly successful summer in first-class cricket in 2004 finishing the year level with Robert Croft as the club`s leading wicket-taker with 57 victims to his name. He regularly made inroads with the new ball, and his fine seam bowling was one of the factors behind Glamorgan`s return to Division One of the County Championship for 2005.
After such a successful season, Harrisom spent 2004/05 with the ECB Academy and was a member of the England A team that toured the United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka. He continued to be a consistent wicket-taker in both forms of the game with Glamorgan in 2005 and 2006, and during the latter season, he was deservedly awarded his county cap.
During Glamorgan's pre-season training in 2007 David was diagnosed as having bulging discs in his lower back. After experiencing discomfort, he underwent surgery in May to remove part of the disc that was pressing on the nerve, and was ruled out for the rest of the season.
