Born at Limehouse, London, 18th January 1853.
Died at St.Pancras, London, 30th August 1898.
Scores & Biographies gives his place of birth as Sandwich, Kent. He was a professional who played 22 matches for Kent 1879-82. In 1880 he was engaged at Eton College and at Cambridge and in 1884 and for several following years he was with the Beckton Cricket Club, in Essex. He had qualified for Essex and played for them before they were a first-class county in 1887.
In the 1881 Census there are a number of James Brays, but none with a London (or Sandwich) birthplace.
