• RO Hurley was making his ODI debut. He became 115th player to represent West Indies in ODIs.
• Australian innings had 4 partnerships of more than 50. This equals the existing record of most 50 partnerships in an innings in ODIs. This was the third such instance for Australia and 14th overall. The other two instances for Australia were v Pakistan at Sydney on 04-02-2000 (Australia scoring 337 for seven) and v New Zealand at Colombo SSC on 15-09-2002 (Australia scoring 296 for seven).
• Brian Lara (40) became first batsman to aggregate 1000 runs at Port-of-Spain. At the end of this match, Lara has an aggregate of 1015 runs in 22 innings at an average of 63.43 with two hundreds and six fifties.
• Hurley was dismissed on duck with out facing a ball. He became third batsman after Zimbabwe’s EA Brandes (v NZ, Hyderabad, 1987-88) and Australia’s Paul Wilson (v NZ,Sydney, 1997-98) to achieve this dubious distinction.
• Adam Gilchrist won his 14th Man of the Match award in 165th match
