Staffordshire won this return match by an innings and 138 runs at 1.20 pm on the second day after Northumberland followed-on 302 runs behind. The match between the two sides at Stoke earlier in the month had also been won by Staffordshire. For the winners, there were 21 fours, 1 three and 5 twos in Meakin's 122, an innings of two hours.
Fereday's 74 included 10 fours and Briggs's 54 contained 6 fours. In the Staffordshire innings, Meakin and Hollowood put on 103 in an hour for the fourth wicket, and Nichols and Winser 55 for the seventh. For the losers, Gillespie top-scored with 48 including 6 fours.
