This match was drawn with Surrey 2nd XI winning on first innings. For the visitors, Rushby took 13 wickets in the match for 195 runs, including 8 for 66 in the Lancashire 2nd XI first innings. The 195 runs he conceded were the most by a bowler in a match during the season. Bowring carried his bat in the Surrey first innings for 118 not out which included 15 fours, 1 three and 9 twos. For the home side, there were 11 fours in Makepeace's 95, 11 fours in Ellis's 52 and 6 fours in Higson's 50. In the Lancashire second innings, Makepeace and Ellis added 88 runs for the tenth wicket. Over 1,300 spectators were present on the first day, and more than 2,000 on the second. Receipts amounted to £18 on the first day and 'considerably more' on the second. Eaton hurt his hand when batting at the start of the Lancashire second innings and did not field in the Surrey second innings, when Fred Roberts, the Ashton professional, fielded as substitute.
[Missing: In Surrey first innings the duration of Bowring's 118 not out.]
