Waikato were given 335 minutes to score 210 to win the match outright but made no attempt to reach the target because the first innings tie meant they would retain the Hawke Cup as long as they did not lose the match outright
BL Hampton pulled a leg muscle after he had bowled 4 overs in the Waikato second innings
IR Hampton was struck down with a severe blow near the eye when fielding close to the bat near the end of the final day's play which required an ambulance to be driven on to the ground to take him from the field for treatment
