Match notes
At the completion of the Queensland Colts innings on the third day of the match New South Wales Colts required 151 runs for victory with 75 minutes of play remaining. At 4.30pm, with two balls of AR Dell's over to be bowled the umpires signalled one hour and fifteen overs to go. On the completion of Dell's over a further fourteen overs were bowled by which time it was 5.30pm and stumps were drawn with New South Wales Colts requiring just two runs for victory. In answering a query on the interpretation of the fifteen overs in the last hour the umpires stated that the remaining two balls of Dell's over bowled after 4.30pm constituted a full over. AR Dell had only recently returned from National Service, having been serving in Vietnam. RC Mesley was selected in the New South Wales Colts team as their twelfth man. He was unable to appear at the match due to University examinations and R Merchant replaced him.
