Paul Collingwood is the current ODI captain of the England side, and this has been a long due reward for his services to England’s cause. He is a bits and pieces player, not exceptionally talented but he has made up for it through sheer luck and determination. He made his ODI debut way back in 2001, against Pakistan but had to wait for two more years for his Test cap, which ultimately came his way in 2003, against Sri Lanka. He became a more regular player in the limited overs format and continued to work hard in order to make his presence felt to the selectors. In 141 matches, he has scored 3526 runs at 35.26, and also has 4 hundreds to his name. But his conversion rate is a bit low as he has also score 19 half centuries. The main reason for this is that he bats lower down the order. Besides this, he is also a handy bowler and a great fielder. His favourite position is at point and time & again, we have seen many a great catches from him. He did play a part in the Ashes win in 2005, but only after he hit a maiden Test ton against India in 2006, in the middle of an English injury crisis, was he able to permanently book a place in the side. In the 2006 Ashes series Down Under, he hit a magnificent double hundred in a losing cause, and followed it up with back-to-back centuries in the VB series, helping England to win an ODI series away from home for the first time in nine years. He was awarded the MBE in 2005 for his services to English cricket.
