Bacup have signed Australian Ryan Broad as their professional for 2009. The 26 year-old opens the batting for Queensland and has currently scored 1333 runs at 31.7 since making his First-class debut against Victoria in 2005.
 
The right handed Broad, who plays under another former Bacup professional Chris Simpson at The Gabba, has only taken 1 wicket at First-class level in bowling 4 overs of right arm medium pace. 
The Australian will be Bacup's 14th Australian professional following in the footsteps of Shaun Young, Adam Dale, Adam Griffith, James Peterson, Ian Brayshaw, Tony Mann, Steve Wundke, Mark O'Neill, Philip Carlson, Chris Simpson and from the early days Alex Kermode, Arthur Richardson and Ted MacDonald.
