Player:LRPL Taylor

DateLine: 3rd June 2008

He is an attacking right handed batsman, who has made it to the New Zealand team on the basis of some powerful hitting. He started his domestic cricket career in 2005-06, when he hit three centuries in that single year alone. As a result, he was drafted into the national squad to replace the ageing Nathan Astle.

He made his ODI debut against the West Indies in 2006, and since then has played 38 matches, scoring 996 runs at a decent average of 35, but a good strike rate of above 80. However, his inconsistency meant that he had to wait for his chance for a shot at Test cricket. He made his debut in the longer version of the game against South Africa in 2007.

He has played only 5 test matches till date, scoring one century against the Sri Lankans. Inconsistent performances haven’t done him any good, especially in the 2007 World Cup, where he got just one half-century in six matches. He was signed by the Bangalore Royal Challengers to play in the Indian Premier League.
