Player: | JEC Franklin |
DateLine: 19th February 2007
One of the several utility players in the New Zealand team, James Franklins forte is his left arm medium pace bowling. The swing he is able to maintain is quite often prodigious enough to worry the best of batsmen. It speaks volumes of his ability that in the face of stiff competition he is still able to command a more or less regular place in the team and has proved his mettle in both forms of the game. He has got several splendid performances against his name in ODIs including five for 42 against England at Durham in the NatWest Series match in 2004 when he got the man of the match award. In Tests he can list five for 28 against Bangladesh, six for 119 against Australia and five for 53 against the West Indies as his best innings performances. With his aggressive left handed batsmanship late in the order he has come good on several occasions and peaked with his unbeaten 122 against South Africa at Cape Town in 2005-06 when with skipper Stephen Fleming he added 256 runs for the eighth wicket a record for New Zealand and the highest for any wicket for New Zealand against South Africa. He had a stint with Glamorgan in 2006.
