Although born and raised in Britain, Doshi made his first class debut with his Indian test player fathers (Dilip) old club Saurashtra in 2001. Previous to this he had played a season at Buckinghamshire, enjoying more success as a batsman than bowler.

At both Saurashtra and in England though Doshi struggled to find games, and he was limited to occasional reserve team appearances for Essex, Lancashire and Sussex in the UK. Things changed though in 2004 when Doshi signed for Surrey after impressing playing for Ealing CC in 2003. After a successful reserve team outing against Northants he was thrust into first team action and finally gained hard earned recognition by claiming 21 wickets in two successive matches against Lancashire and Sussex
2005 saw an excellent Twenty20 competition for Doshi, though not as impressive a first class season. A less than spectacular winter campaign in India followed where he claimed just three wickets in seven games.
However in 2006 he hit form at Surrey claiming 51 first class victims at under 29 per wicket. The season included a 10 wicket haul against Worcestershire, 21 wickets at just over 11 in the Twenty20 cup (where he was the competitions leading wicket taker) and a more than useful batting average of 21 at number 10 in first class games.
Doshi can be devastating on spinning tracks, while he has proved the value of spin beyond doubt in the Twenty20 competition. He will face stiff competition at Surrey in the spin department to maintain his place, but now seems ready to develop a successful first class career.(Article: The opinions expressed in this article are those of the author only.
