James Franklin joined Glamorgan in 2006 as one of their overseas players following Michael Kasprowicz`s decision to concentrate on his international career, and the left-arm swing bowler and middle-order batsman will become the first New Zealander to represent the Welsh county.

He joined Glamorgan after a highly successful season in domestic cricket in 2005/06, during which he recorded career-best figures of 7-30 against Central Districts in December, and then in March, struck a career best 208 against Auckland.
Franklin was a member of the New Zealand party that toured England in 2004. During the one-day tournament, he won the Man-of-the Match award at Chester-le-Street after taking 5/42 against England, and shortly afterwards, he played at Sophia Gardens in New Zealand`s game against the West Indies.
The Kiwi has also played in the Lancashire League, as well as appearing for Gloucestershire in the 2004 season, during which he claimed 7/60 against Lancashire at Cheltenham College on his county debut.
