Mumbai, Dec. 14 : Owing to the injury and fitness issues Abraham Benjamin de Villiers has relinquished the Test captaincy of his South African team, but this will provide him enough opportunity to be with his family, according to his father (his name is also Abraham Benjamin de Villiers and is a doctor by profession).

On Monday, the 32-year-old AB de VIlliers has announced to step down as captain of the Test team with immediate effect citing fitness issues.
"I'm actually glad he stepped down as captain as he has a family now and should spend more time with the family", speaking exclusively over his mobile from South Africa, Dr de Villiers said.
"I'm not disappointed because he has been playing Test cricket for 12 years and can say that he has been captain".
"He has always been a sportsman with true spirit and therefore resigned knowing he would be unable to give 100 %".
"He did not consult me as he does his own thing. He has been ODI captain for many games and takes it in his stride", Dr de Villiers signed off.
