Commanding Victory
by D. Giridhar

Scorecard:Sri Lanka v England
Event:ICC World Cup 2010/11

DateLine: 27th March 2011

It was a convincing ten-wicket win by Sri Lanka when they beat England to reach the semifinals of World Cup 2011. Sri Lankan bowling was well disciplined with accurate line and length restricting England to 229.

Chasing this target Upal Tharanga and Dilshan Tillakaratne first played themselves in and then went on to score unbeaten centuries, simply toying with a weary-looking England attack to realise a commanding victory.

The highlight of their innings was that they showed lots of responsibility from start to finish. Tharanga and Dilshan piled-on runs with a dozen boundaries and couple of sixes making England bowlers struggle.

Earlier, when England was batting, one cannot forget mention of the spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan who claimed two vital wickets of Trott and Ravi Bopara who were well set. His magical spin swung the match Sri Lanka's way.
