Player: | EJ Lewis |
Euros Lewis had a short career with Glamorgan during the 1960`s as a left-handed batsman and off-spin bowler. He made his debut in 1961, initially as a bold and free hitting opening batsman, before working hard on his bowling, and dropping down the batting order. His sharp off-spin supplemented the first choice spin of Don Shepherd and Jim Pressdee, and in 1965 he had a memorable match against Sussex at Cardiff Arms Park. He began with a quickfire 80, before returning the remarkable figures of 2.2-1-1-4, polishing off the Sussex second innings in the space of just fourteen balls.

However, some of the best moments of Lewis` career with Glamorgan came at Swansea, as the Welsh spinner fully exploited the dry St.Helen`s wickets. It was there in 1964 that Lewis was a member of the Glamorgan side that defeated the Australians by 36 runs, and at the same ground the following summer, Lewis recorded career best bowling figures of 8/89 in the six wicket victory over Kent to win his county cap.
But Lewis became rather inconsistent and his relationship with the Welsh club became strained. At the end of 1966, he joined Sussex. Although he won his Sussex cap in 1967, Lewis` form was erratic, and he was released by the English county at the end of the 1969 season.
