Durham's unique Minor Counties record of having played sixty-five matches without defeat came to an end in this their 66th minor counties match. Durham's previous defeat was on 30th August 1976 v Northumberland at Jesmond.
The start was delayed for 50 minutes on the first day following overnight rain and rain stopped play from 3.38pm to 3.58pm. Rain stopped play from 4.26pm to 5.13pm (tea taken) on the second day.
