This return match was comfortably won by Berkshire on the second day, despite them conceding a first innings lead of 49 runs.
Earlier in the year Dorset had won on first innings in a match left drawn. Dorset were set a target of 213 but collapsed and never threatened to win. For the winners Brougham scored 51, Denning 51 with 7 fours, and Lockhart an unbeaten 59. Lockhart also bowled splendidly, taking 5 wickets for 7 runs in Dorset's second innings, and this in spite of the fact that he was suffering from a fracture of a bone at the back of the hand. For the losers Harrison made 71 and also took 5 wickets for 49 runs in Berkshire's first innings. Webb took 5 wickets for 68 runs in Berkshire's second innings.
